2018 Update

Now entering our fifth year The South Carolina Youth Leadership Conference continues to grow with 2018 having seen 84 students attend the programs at either Clemson University or the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s campus in Bluffton.

This year the conference at Clemson University will be May 16 – 19 while at USCB’s Bluffton campus the dates are June 13 – 16, 2019. The later start in June has been necessitated by the longer school year due to make up days following the recent storms.

Information on the 2019 conferences is available on this website but should there by any question or need for additional information do not hesitate to contact us at: 843 422-1728 or through email by writing: outreach@scyouthleadership.org.

In addition to our regular conferences for sophomores we have initiated an innovative program called ILEAD-9 that is for high school ninth graders as an initial introduction to personal leadership with an emphasis on not only the fundamental characteristics of leadership but teamwork as well.

At this time our ILEAD-9 program is available only at Hilton Head Island High School. We will start the second semester on January 15th with a focus on preparing the 300 students for their spring projects.

Meanwhile, we continue to plan both the Clemson and the USCB conferences. now scheduled for June 13-16 at the Bluffton Campus. This year we will be using many of the teachings from the well-known text titled: The Student Leadership Challenge by renowned authors Barry Posner and Jim Kouzes. Their books have been a hallmark on the writings of leadership for well over twenty years.

Early this year we will be forwarding an email to all administrators with more details on SCYLC-2019 including details on registration and the new payment plan.

This past year has been amazing with excellent programs at both Clemson and USCB with so many students wanting to return and enjoy additional experiences in leadership. The ILEAD-9 pilot at HHIHS will continue to reach some 300 ninth graders with many of the same teachings as at the SCYLC events. It is our hope and expectation the ILEAD-9 programs will eventually become a staple of the early high school experiences helping each student achieve his or her personal goals.
